Social media followers upset?

Firstly, I appreciate all my followers especially as my twitter, instagram and blog here are open to view by anyone…

Thank you πŸ™‚ A majority of the time I follow back if relevant, interesting etc (not ones based on boobs and gym goers etc – porn type stuff – you probably know what I mean πŸ˜‚) and occasionally I may not have realised I have missed genuine followers (more below).

So – I have an app for instagram and twitter that tells me what’s what so I know and can rectify. I got the app because when I first started out I noticed a massive surge of followers then the next day or within days lost loads! I was curious….

From this, I’ve noticed there are some followers who follow then unfollow within a very short period. I feel used for their numbers but have learnt to deal with that. Whatever. Goodbye!

But what really gets me is the ones who’s bios say they are interested in mental health – e.g advocacy, service user movements, helping people with MI, specialise in MI areas (like trauma, addiction, abuse, certain mental illness), support groups… yet they unfollow.

Why? Is it because they are more interested in themselves by getting out there? Do they not realise they are perpetuating the very thing they’re arguing/standing up for?

I find it annoying but sometimes hurtful. Am I being oversenstive? I just find it fake.

What’s your thoughts? Do you find this?

  1. I’d try not to get too hung up on who follows or unfollows or take it personally. Twitter has those that flutter about like butterflies – not settling for long. I don’t have that app that tells me who comes and goes. I don’t even worry how many followers I have. If I can have an interesting polite conversation with someone then that’s good. If I can use my experiences to educate and inform then that’s good too.

    1. Thanks for your input πŸ™‚ I don’t mind at all if I have 1 or 1000 etc followers I’m all about quality. I’m stupidly sensitive πŸ˜‚ which is daft for my profession. I may delete appt…. but hate users!!!! X

  2. The more the merrier. Are you from the West Country? My wife’s from Bristol. Just wondering as you both say the same thing.

      1. I haven’t got a wordpress account. Just looked into it and it seems you have to create a blog first. It’s no biggie – I was just making conversation.

  3. I don’t know how Instagram works, but I recently shut down my Instagram account and so it might appear that I’ve ‘unfollowed’ you. If so, be assured that it’s not that I unfollowed you.

    1. I did notice but then I go through each one and unfollow if they’ve been deemed the unacceptable ones etiquette wise. I saw you had gone so all is well πŸ™‚ glad you’re here. It’s much more engaging πŸ™‚

      1. Thank you, as long as you don’t mind these comments turning into a two-way chat. As for those others that unfollow you, I wouldn’t worry about it – their loss. It’s probably better to be there for the people who appreciate you and what you’re doing. As my wife used to say (and probably still does): “There’s none so queer as folk.”

      2. I prefer 2 way chats! Much more engaging (and others who may want to join in). After all that’s what communication is all about πŸ™‚ I’m definitely preferring this to Instagram. So much more versatile. I’m gonna try to go through those followers and see if we can properly engage here. The news feeds on there are daft – out of date etc. V impersonal. And yeah we’re all queer – I agree with her and often say the same myself lol.
